Rural Homesteading Journey: Cultivating Hope, Gardens, and Grit While Building a Self-Sufficient Life

Three major surgeries tried to derail my homesteading dreams, but I’m adapting with grit and grins! On my rural Kentucky “Mayberry”, Bloom & Peck is all about finding joy in the dirt.

I’m pursuing a self sufficient life on my Zone 7 Kentucky homestead! 🌱 At Bloom & Peck, you’ll find my journey of gardening with thrifted planters like salt lick tubs (thanks, Gardening with Leon!), raised garden beds, polyculture adventures, raising sassy chickens, preserving harvests, and baking sourdough with Amish-store flour. Nope, no four mill as of yet.

I’m not a fully organic gardener, but I’m loving the polyculture vibe. My compost pile is curing and another is growing almost as fast as my tomatos! I embrace the small everyday wins and learn from those tearful fails that ya have to laugh at along the way. From container gardening hacks to seed swaps with local homesteaders, I’m all about sustainable, self-sufficient, budget-friendly living.

Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned homesteader, join me for self-suffienciey trials and errors, sourdough discard recipes (like my favorite sourdough discard muffins), and a good laugh at my rock hard loafs of bread. Let’s grow, preserve, and thrive together! Explore my blog, follow me on social @bloomandpeck, and let’s do this homestead journey together.

Inspired by my favorite YouTube’s gardening and homesteading gurus, I’m keeping it real and sustainable. Join me for laughs, maybe a wonky loaf, and my adaptive homesteading journey—dirt stains and all!
