Privacy Policy for Bloom & Peck

Last Updated: May 6, 2025

Welcome to *Bloom & Peck*, where I, Erin, share my journey of gardening and homesteading from rural Kentucky, even while recovering from surgery. I’m all about finding joy in the dirt, and I want you to feel safe exploring this space. This Privacy Policy explains how I handle your information when you visit my blog at https://bloomandpeck.com, use my services, or interact with me. Let’s dig into the details!

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

What Information Do I Collect?

I respect your privacy and keep data collection to a minimum. Here’s what I might gather:

  • Personal Information: If you comment on a post or contact me via email (e.g., [[email protected]]), I may collect your name, email address, and any details you share. This helps me respond to you or feature your stories (with permission!).
  • Analytics Data: I use tools like Google Analytics to track visits, page views, and how you find me (e.g., search engines or social media). This is anonymous data to improve my blog, not to identify you personally.
  • Cookies: My site uses cookies to enhance your experience (e.g., remembering your comment preferences). You can manage these in your browser settings.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information

How Do I Use Your Information?

I use your data to:

  • Respond to your comments or emails with gardening tips or homestead inspiration.
  • Analyze site traffic to make *Bloom & Peck* more useful (e.g., more posts on companion planting if that’s popular!).
  • Share occasional updates via email if you opt in (you can unsubscribe anytime).

I don’t sell your data to third parties—my focus is on growing my garden, not your inbox!

Where your data is sent

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Affiliate Links and Third-Party Services

Some links (e.g., to Amazon, Burpee, etc) are affiliate links, meaning I earn a small commission if you buy something. This helps fund my greenhouse dream! These third-party sites have their own privacy policies, so please check them out. I also use Google Analytics, which follows its own [privacy terms](https://policies.google.com/privacy).

How Do I Protect Your Information?

I take reasonable steps to keep your data safe, like using secure hosting and not storing sensitive info longer than needed. Comments are public, so avoid sharing personal details there—let’s keep the dirt in the garden, not your life story!

Your Rights and Choices

You’re in control! Depending on your location (e.g., EU with GDPR or California with CCPA):

  • Request access to or deletion of your data by emailing me at [email protected].
  • Opt out of analytics tracking by adjusting your browser cookies.
  • Unsubscribe from emails with the link provided in each message.

If you’re outside the U.S., let me know if you need specific rights enforced—I’m happy to help!

Changes to This Policy

As my blog grows (like my raspberry starts!), this policy might update. I’ll post changes here with a new date, so check back. If it’s a big change, I’ll notify you via email or a site announcement.
